Since this is a website dedicated to peacock themed items, it would make sense to start out with some interesting facts about peacocks. Here is a list of some information I found about peacocks and hopefully you might discover something that you didn’t know.
1. Peacocks are part of the pheasant family.
2. Only males are actually peacocks even though the term is used for both sexes. Females are called peahens and babies are called peachicks. Together they are referred to as peafowls.
3. A family of peafowl is called a bevy. A group is called an ostentation, muster, pride or party.
4. Only the males have the beautiful tail feathers.
5. They can live to 20 years in the wild and up to 50 years in captivity.
6. There are 3 varieties of peafowl: The blue or Indian peacock, the green peacock and the Congo peacock.
7. The blue peacock lives in India and Sri Lanka.
8. The green peacock lives in Java and Myanmar.

9. The lesser known Congo peacock is found African rain forests.
10. White peacocks are not albinos. They have a genetic mutation that causes the lack of pigments in their plumage. Leucism, a condition of dimming skin and feather pigments.

11. Peacocks are omnivores which means they eat plants, insects and small creatures.
12. Peacocks can make 11 different sounds.
13. Peacocks can run at a speed of 10 mph.
14. Peacocks can fly but not very far. They are one of the largest flying birds in the world.
15. Peacocks shed and regrow their beautiful tail feathers every year.
16. The peacock is the national bird of India
